Our agent suggested we look at houses in the North Shore school district (ie, in Glen Head). We have primarily been looking in Garden City and other towns with better LIRR commutes to the city. The LIRR schedules from Glen Head seem long, less frequent, and needs a transfer in Jamaica, on the way to MAnhattan.
How do folks from this part of Long Island commute to the city? Suck up the train ride to/from Glen Head? Are there faster stations nearby with paid parking that do not need to be residents of the town with the better train station?
I spent 30+ years on the Oyster Bay line so I hear what you are asking about. You can drive to Syosset but those trains are always crowded. If you find a house you love, you can use the time to catch up on sleep or work.
