The local roads are often pretty bad, such as Peninsula Boulevard in some areas. Local roads are "maintained" by the chronically destitute County of Nassau and never really fixed for the long term.

Sunrise Highway and the Southern State Parkway are NY State roads, and I think the LIE also. The last time I drove on the LIE it wasn't so bad.

What shocks me is how dramatically better the roads are out here in the wild west, while taxes are 75% - 80% less. What is NY doing with all those taxes and toll money? There are no tolls here. Hmmm...

Do you get snow where you are? The midwestern states also have pothole problems. Whitmore won the election based on her pledge to fix the potholes.

Have no idea what you are whining about.

Move to Florida or Texas, you won't be missed

ADIOS
I guess I should have taken dash cam video. Will try to do this when I come back in a few years. You must have good shocks on your vehicle and very poor vision. How come the rest of the posters confirm the pot holes?

There's snow here in the high desert, but it's rarely more than an inch or two. Then at noontime the sun beats down hard and melts it all, usually. I don't expect to shovel 14 inches ever again.

Sixty miles north, in Santa Fe, the elevation is higher so it's colder and more snowy. Still, potholes are rarely a problem.

Any place that salts the daylights out of their roads, like we do in NYC/LI/CT/NJ, etc will have problems with potholes. The salt is corrosive, then if you get even the smallest crack, water gets in and goes thru freeze/thaw cycles that expand in to potholes. Then when they try to patch the potholes in the winter, they have to use cold tar, which is not as good as the regular hot tar. They don't even the holes out, square them off, etc to make them easier to fill and smooth. They just fill, tamp down, and move on to the next pothole.

Warm weather states don't have to worry about the freeze/thaw cycles, so their roads are easier to maintain.

Everywhere else I drive in the northeast has much better roads than LI - NJ, MD, PA, and even upstate NY. And they have snow and use salt. The LIE between exits 60 and 65 is a disaster. Gotta be a maintenance issue.

When I was in Arizona in 2018 I was amazed by how light the traffic was. No one gawks at a cop pulling someone over like they do here in NY. The speed limit I think was 75 on highway. Hoping to move there in a few years. The congestion here is too much.

All of your tax money goes to salaries and bennies.
Whatever crumbs that are left go towards capital improvements.
You can thank the politicians and unions.
Basically you all work to pay your neighbors salary.
So once again we revert back to cops ‘n teachers.

I drive on LIE twice daily, non HOV, from Nassau all the way to the east. The road condition varies, but in general, it sucks.

Rarely see them doing real road work, and whatever they do they do it extremely slowly. The most recent one I saw was around exit 49 and it took several months (if not one or two years, don't remember). I don't see anything got better there.
