My mother in law has at least 100 books maybe more that she does not read anymore. I was told by my mom who works in a library that due to Covid-19 no library will take them. I was thinking of donating them to a senior center. I'd rather not throw them out.
I used to own thousands of books, was collecting them since I was a teen. Decided to dispose of them a few years back and found out they are all but worthless, even as a donation, very few libs wanted them. I had books from the 1800s, no takers.
Put them to the curb and post on FB "Free books!".
Post on facebook and freecycle - I've been able to find some takers myself (have tons of books!). You can also try calling the VA in Northport.
Be sure to state location, to keep questions to a minimum.
Out in Indiana, a couple of Notre Dame grads started a company Better World Books, which has several drop boxes on Long Island. Scroll to the bottom of THIS LINK. Then click on Find a Drop Box. They collect and re-sell books discarded by libraries and individuals, giving a portion of the proceeds to the places that have a drop box. The pandemic disrupted the pick-ups, but the firm is recovering. For example, when the box outside the Seaford library is full, a clerk phones for a pick-up.

I have twice purchased my own books back from Better World Books! I thought I was finished needing these history books, then found I needed the book for reference. Also, Better World Books has large-print books at good prices.

Some libraries, such as Bellmore, requested removal of a bin because the emptying was not done quickly enough. Seaford is now satisfied with the response time.

It is better than tossing books in a dumpster.
