I believe there were mistakes made all around. From prep before hand when they were advised of possible problems to the President not calling them off at the start of the awareness of things escalating.
HOWEVER, the above said, I fail to understand where personal responsibility comes into play. Sorry, but I don’t buy that they were doing what they were called to do. If someone told me to walk across a bridge and jump off, I have a free will and a mind and I would never do it. Only a moron would think this was a good thing to do or a smart thing to do. So for many, just like some of the Vietnam war protests of years ago, they started out innocently enough and turned violent and out of control. I think for many, (but not all) they simply got caught up with the masses and before they knew it, they were inside the capital pushing and shoving.
It seems very easy today to push the blame off on to others. Do I think all of them were innocent? Absolutely not, not by a long shot but, I do think some were hellbent on breaching the capital and creating mayhem. Yes. I can and will blame many things on the president, but for me, this is a hard bridge to cross.
One is a bunch of morons storming the capitol based on a lie. (1/6)
The other are protests about basic human rights - a real issue and sometimes a matter of life and death. About 93% of these protests have been non violent. (BLM protests)
If you can't see that, then I'm wasting my effort typing this anyway.
93% peaceful. I’m sorry but HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! BILLIONS in property damage 10k arrests nationwide. All based on an insane lie that police are just randomly hunting down and killing minorities in the streets en masse.
If YOU can’t see that then I’m wasting my time typing….

Another oft repeated out of context lie that has been throughly debunked again and again. He literally condemned white supremacists just a few lines before saying this.
Reporter: "The neo-Nazis started this. They showed up in Charlottesville to protest --"
Trump: "Excuse me, excuse me. They didn’t put themselves -- and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name."
To be more precise, if my memory doesn't fail me, the "neo-Nazis" (in reality a small number of knuckleheads), met annually in that park for decades without any disturbances. It wasn't until the left made an issue of removing the statue AND to have it removed on the day the "neo-Nazis" were to hold their meeting that a deadly conflict ensued. So, was the death of a young lady worth the removal of a statue?
FYI - the "neo-Nazis" still have their annual meet in that Charlottesville park.

Trump has birthed a dangerous new ‘Lost Cause’ myth. We must fight it
The lie that the election was ‘stolen’ from Trump is building its monuments in ludicrous stories, and codifying them in laws to make the next elections easier to pilfer.

Way to gaslight and completely change the subject….

OP linked to an article:
Nassau attorney and former East Williston school board trustee John O’Kelly was arrested Thursday for his actions during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, according to the federal prosecutors.
Still waiting for clarification:

gaslighting: manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.
