My wife and I are planning on building a new home in the town of north hempstead. We have not yet purchased a knockdown, but have few that we like in Albertson, Great Neck, and New Hyde Park area (cost range from 450k to 550k). We are looking to build a 2500 sq ft home, 3 bdrm, 2.5 bth.
We looked at a few new constructions, but either they were lacking a few things that we prefer on the layout and location (good size kitchen, master bdrm, balcony, quiet street, descent size lot, etc.) or were way over priced.
Does anyone have an experience with the process that they can share? I am mostly interested in cost, permits from north hempstead, timeline, experience with builders, overall satisfaction, and any other advice.
Sorry I cant answer your other questions, but when you do get a builder make sure his workers are legal. Because if they have no documents and they get injured you could foot the medical bills.
Well, IMO you need to commit to the project and expect it will take 6-12 months to get approval and 9-12 to complete.
I would do 2 things, speak to an achitect and work out the financing and where you are going to live during the process.
I think if your really want to build you own home, concider getting prelim drawings done and then find a lot that will fit you home instead of fitting you dream home into a certain lot.
Keep a close eye on the purse strings because it can get out of control.
