Yes, it's "jappy". I would say Jericho a bit more than Plainview. I grew up a little further east but went to camp with a lot of kids from Woodbury/Syosset/Jericho. However, if someone seriously thinks Westchester is any better, they need their head examined. The areas in Westchester which are comparable to the North Shore are just as materialistic, though perhaps preppier and in fact with a higher percentage of financial professionals. Great Neck would attract more Wall Street types than Jericho/Plainview, again due to commute.

The parts of Westchester which are more relaxed are also either more remote or less well off--and you will see exactly the same pattern on Long Island. New York suburbs with top schools, convenience and amenities attract the well off, driven, and materialistic.
