I was thinking of moving to L.I., maybe one of the 55+ areas that are in and around Riverhead. I'm worried that the Riverhead Resort will be a bad place to live near. I don't know exactly where this resort is going to be. Any suggestions on where to look for a home?

The resort will be in Calverton which is just west of Riverhead. The 55 and older complexes that are just north of route 58 in Riverhead are very nice. I believe one is called The Landings.
Thanks Lancet71 for answering. I did some investigation and I believe its going to be where Grumman use to be? I use to work at Grumman in Calverton for a couple of weeks when my group did some testing for two summers in late 60's. Our office was in Bethpage but had to test plane in Calverton each summer. I remember it was nice out there, then. Don't know what its like now. Guess its really getting built up out there? If you live out there, are you sorry for the Riverhead Resorts to be built? I hate to see open land being used up but I guess if this isn't built more houses will be built instead (and stores).

Reason: more to say

I also heard it was going to be at the old grumman grounds. It will be good for the economy and the local vendors. The land was going to waste anyway. If it was never developed I would agree but vacant lots are always an eyesore. The only problem will be the traffic on 25A. The expressway wont be a big deal but 25A will get backed more than it usually does. In october and november the farmers do good business with pumpkin sales, hay rides, etc...usually through thanksgiving at the least. Maybe this will initiate more cleaning up of the riverhead area though. Hopefully something will eventually happen to that ugly suffolk life parking lot.
All this will result in is more sprawl and traffic. Also, do you really think it's going to create high paying jobs? Running the lift for the ski mountain and the related concession stands? Not to mention the horrendous traffic in the area it will add to in an unimaginable way. There's no such thing as wasted land until it's built upon and the buildings are vacant, which is going to happen with this travesty of a project if it ever comes to fruition. There's better ways to clean up Riverhead than making a bigger mess of it.

I personally hope you're right. I drive out East to get away from the nonsense, so perhaps my view is a tad selfish. At the same time, though, it's not like I'm not spending a chunk of cash on my trips out there.

A Casino would be much more lucrative and maybe even solve NYS budget concerns.
