Can anyone recomend a GOOD OB in the Islip, East Islip/Bayshore area. I'm looking for someone who is open to as natural a childbirth as possible and not someone who's so easy to perform C-section births (I don't want to use a midwife). I'd like a doctor who is affiliated with Southside or North Shore LIJ Manhasset? I know that they will have a list of Docs on the websites but I'm really looking for someone who has used this Dr. before and has had a great experience with them.
My old OB is located in Manhasset, but she is considered the BEST OB affiliated with North Shore and she has the lowest c-section rates of any doctor there. Dr. Jessica Jacob

Why not a CNM? The Stony Brook ones are good, and they're your best bet for going natural. Also, many CNMs will do all or most of the labor, so you're not left to pot luck with the L&D nurses. (I must admit to being rather partial to CNMs as one of my college roommates is now one!)
DO NOT go to NS Manhasset if you want to go natural. 90% epidural rate, 43% episiotomy rate (ouch!). Stick with Stony Brook, much closer and more flexible too. I'd choose North Shore for the MFMs, but I'm not sure why you'd want to shlep there for a straightforward birth... especially since what you want is available much closer to home. Stony Brook is a major hospital with a high risk pregnancy unit and RPC (NYS top level of NICU) so if anything does go wrong it's not as if you're taking any risks.
Dr Howard Egre in West Islip on Montauk Hwy delivered all 3 of my boys......one was at Mid Island and the other two at Good Sam.......not sure what other hospitals they are affiliated with but he's a great gyn/obgyn and fertility expert.......I had some issues after my first son and had a bunch of miscarriages and he started me on a treatment that wasnt common at the time and we had our 2nd son......
I've recommened many to him for their pregnancies and all were very happy...
I dont think he feels strongly one way or the other.....its up to the patient and will work with you and your needs......his partner Dr klien is also really nice......saw him in some of my prenatal visits....
I too recommend Dr. Egre/Klein of A&E (mentioned by JimNSue). My first three children were delivered at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola; not one time did my "regular" doctors end up delivering my babies (it always ended up being a resident I had never met). I have been so impressed with my prenatal care with Klein & Egre so far- I had some illness complications in the beginning, and both the doctors and office staff were kind and proactive in giving me the assistance needed. Both doctors are really nice and knowledgeable, and I have found its a huge benefit to be seen at a smaller office- the care is more personalized, appts. easier to schedule.
I loved my OB, Dr Salvatore Leo on DPA in N Babylon. He has a small practice with his daughter Aimee who is also an OB. He is the head of Obstetrics at Good Sam. I ended up opting for a C section due to preeclampsia but he never forced the issue on me, he gave me the option of being induced if I wanted to try that first (I had to deliver because of my blood pressure so I was early). He seems to enjoy having a smaller practice now (he said he had a large practice when he was younger) he spends a lot of time with you and has an excellent bedside manner as does his daughter. I agree with Mikeswife, it's a HUGE benefit to go to the smaller practices, I saw an OB/GYN at a large practice years ago and felt so lost. I can call Dr Leo's office and the receptionist knew who I was and I never felt like I was just another number..

There is NO shortcut in looking for someone to take care of your body, EVEN IN 2009.
You can't go through the usual process...through a referral from your general Dr. and health care provider ?
I don't understand how you are looking "HERE" for one ?
