The only comment I have to make is, being in the wedding industry, I see it every single Thurs., Fri., Sat. and Sun, for 9 months out of the year on a regular basis that at both 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and then again at 9 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. when the reception halls empty out, THAT is the worst possible time to be driving on any of our highways. I watch all these guests, week after week for 20 years now, drinking so much and acting so insane minutes before on the dance floor or at after parties, etc., and then as we are walking out, they are there waiting in line for the valet to bring their cars out so they can hop in them and drive on the LIE, Southern State Pkwy, Meadowbrook Pkwy, Northern State Pkwy, and Wantagh Pkwy among tons of other roads. They don't think twice about it. A lot of the wedding parties leave by limos, that is true, just like the incident with Katie Flynn back in 2005 on the Wantagh Pkwy leaving Bayville at her aunt's wedding when a drunk driver entered the Wantagh Pkwy heading on the wrong side of the road when they crashed into them and decapitated that little girl and killed the limo driver. But the fact of the matter is, that the weddings are taking place with 125+ guests and those people ARE NOT renting an expensive limo to drive home in, nor are they carpooling or doing a designated driver.............sad, but true.

My husband was hit by a drunk driver a few years back. The drunk was driving on the wrong side of LIE. He got on at the exit ramp at 49 and went west till he crashed head on to the car my husband was in at exit 46. Needless to say my husband almost did not make it...15 surgeries and a few years later he is doing ok and his right arm is paralyzed.

This was the drunk's 3rd time getting caught and he got 3 years in jail...thats it! If the law was changed to 10 years minimum for any DWI offense that severely injured someone maybe this would change!

Just my thoughts!
