I'm moving at the end of this month and because of uncertainty about where I was going to be working, I had to delay looking for a place to live. I hope to find a place to rent by the end of next week. I've started searching MLSLI and I have been able to find a few properties within my budget and requirements, but I'm curious as to whether or not all rentals are listed on MLSLI or if I could find others locally. The problem is I'm not limiting myself to one locale. I'm trying to find something within reasonable distance to both my workplace and my daughter's preschool, which are on opposite shores. It makes doing a local search more difficult. Would it be improper to use multiple real estate agents? And would I be expected to pay a fee to the agent once I do find a place or does the owner pay the fee? Thanks.

No, you don't have to limit yourself to one agent. If you're looking on both shores, most agents won't travel from one to the other, because the commission is relatively low. There are always exceptions, of course.

And yes, in our area, the fee (usually one month rent) is paid by the tenant.
