Hi All,
My wife and I are considering a move to Great Neck. We both commute to NYC and are currently only looking at houses close to the train station. I'd like to expand my home search to more of Great Neck, but I don't know how reliable the buses are. If you've had experiences with the buses that go to the train station (good or bad) please let me know. Thanks!

Default Understanding the geography of "Great Neck"

mark813, in case you are not familiar with the geography of "Great Neck", you need to be aware that 8 out of every 10 places that have a "Great Neck, NY" mailing address (6,022 acres) are not in the Village of Great Neck (866 acres), and there are 13 communities (9 villages: Great Neck, Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kensington, Kings Point, Lake Success, Russell Gardens, Saddle Rock and Thomaston and 4 hamlets: Great Neck Gardens, Harbor Hills, Saddle Rock Estates and University Gardens) that are all or partly within the borders of the "Great Neck, NY 11020 to 11024" ZIP Code postal zone.

When you do find a house that you like, you can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes, as described above, different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)
