take a look at the LIRR schedule and figure out what train you'd be taking. It's usually around 35-40 mins depending on the train. Then add about 10-15 mins to get downtown on the subway. This depends on whether or not you catch the express and how far you're walking from the subway to your office.
The LIRR and subway system is the best route -
its still way better than driving into NY...
paying money for tunnels, bridges, etc. tolls, etc. and having to deal with crazy NY drivers. -
I would suggest the LIRR
I took it in once from Brentwood station out near Islip and found it to be very enjoyable

lol it is not enjoyable..overpriced and always delayed
it still beats driving into Manhattan and paying for tolls and gas
actually it doesn't, but to each his/her own. My train is late so often that my boss doesn't believe it's the train anymore and thinks it's me and said if i'm late one more time I'm getting fired. LIRR could cost me my job.
The LIRR also has stopps in Brooklyn which can make for a quicker subway ride, but you probably have to transfer at Jamaica (and we all know how much fun that is). Count on it being an hour - more if delays and less if you time everything right.

what train do you take?
