I still dial Hamilton -7- for my aunt in Centerport . I liked our old numbers :
Roslyn -3 - 2358
Setauket- 6 -1120 R (It was a party-line and you had to wait until the very chatty Mrs. Winterbottom finished talking until you could use your phone.)
My Dad's office : Chickering -4-2424 (NYC)
Those were memorable numbers like Butterfield 8 and Beachwood -4-5789 and all.

Farmindale was CHapel. I still remember the full phone number. A commercial for something on the TV constantly listed Murray Hill XXX. Anyone know what that was for?
Here's one for ya! When my parents moved us to NH in the late 50's, we had hand crank phones. You had to crank the phone to get the operator to come on and connect you with the party you were calling. My Mom went to the pay phone to make a call before our phone was turned on and she had a dime and only needed a nickel. The operator told her to come to the house behind the phone booth and get her change! She was the town operator and worked in her own house! All the phones were party lines and you could really get some good gossip. Of course, in a town of only 400 people, you NEEDED gossip! There was nothing else!
The Murray Hill phone number of the 1950's was for the Gimbels(?) reupholstery service. It was a one minute commercial on New York television advertising their reupholstery service...IIRC. That is way back in my memory, and I could be wrong. It was aired in the afternoon during the Queen for a day or Liberace show that was primarily viewed by the stay-at-home moms of the 1950's.
Queen for a day....now we have Judge Judy and Dr. Phil for our heartbreaking stories. Does anybody reupholster anymore?
east northport had AN1 (261) ... for some reason, ANderson comes to mind but im not sure if that was the word... and i'm also not sure i ever heard the letter/word equivilant for our home number (368)...
