I love two, both of them in Roslyn Village: 1) Diane's, 2) Wheatley (I think that's what it's called, but it's the only one at the shopping center where the Besito Restaurant is)

Another vote for Alpine in Smithtown. Good for everyday cookies and pastries, but also great for specialty cakes. They did an amazing black fondant grim reaper cake for my brother's 50th, and a parasuarolophus(that's a duckbill dinosaur for those of you without small boys at home) for my son's 6th.

Mario's? Really? I am not far from there -- it is okay but I gotta tell you the best bakeries by far:

Butter Cooky (New Hyde Park)
Malverne Bake Shoppe (Malverne)
Front Street Bakery (Rockville Centre)
Walls Bake Shoppe (Hewlett)

When I lived in East Rockaway I would go to Walls at get donuts. OMG they make the best jelly donuts EVER! They blow away Dunkin' Donuts any day. It will be a sad day when they shut there doors.
