Down where I live (Cedarhurst/5 towns area), it's apparently a way of life to just roll through stop signs.. some people do this worse than others. Some people roll through at around 10-15mph (essentially not even using their brakes to stop) then speed up to 40 to the next stop sign, while others do it around 5mph.

Should/could I call the police to get some sort of surveillance set up around the neighborhood to crack down on this? I run in this neighborhood in the mornings and have had some pretty close calls with people barreling through these stop signs.

I've made it a point to stop completely at a stop sign in this area and check extensively before going because it is such a problem.

If you call, NCPD will drop everything and rush right over to deal with the problem

There's a NCPD station right in Cedarhurst but I honestly never see them.

Would I call the local NCPD station or the larger station in Hewlett/Woodmere (I think).

If you and the neighbors complain enough, they will eventually send someone over. The truth is that putting tons of stop signs up diminishes their value as people realize they are simply speed control and not traffic control measures, and that's why you have a plague of stop sign rollers.

The most ridiculous example I've ever seen of this was on Boyle Road over in Selden back in the 90's. One day, they decided to put up about 20 stops signs where no traffic control was really needed, they just wanted to slow down speeders. No one stopped at those signs.
