I'd rather live in a tent on a very large chunk of property, rather than a McMansion on a piece of property where you can literally stick your hand out the window and hand your neighbor a cup of sugar through his window.

Then again, I'm a recluse and avoid contact with the outside world as much as possible. I prefer a fortified compound

Most yards in Nassau are small. I find the biggest, most important part is the house and where it sits on the property.

If the lots are 60X100, you can still have a nice backyard wiht a wideline cape without an extension as long as the wide line is on the 60. Corner properties that are 60X100 tend to have the wide part of the house on the 100 which leaves really only a side yard. Those deep inline ranches and high ranches tend to consume the backyards leaving you with two narrow side yards and a small backyard.

Personally, I'd love 200 acres, but will settle for something with a slightly oversized lot with good house placement.

It can be done. We had a neighbor move their house 10' further away from a side lot line to center their home on the property.

Backyard (fenced) = letting the kiddies out the backdoor to play while a parent can either sit outside on a lawn chair, or duck in and bring out drinks and snacks. No meeting new friends, unless they share a fence. Can work from home outside while kiddies play.

Park = setting a time to take the kiddies and carrying drinks and snacks with you. Meeting new friends. Lug work to the park while kiddies play, but having to keep an eye out -- strangers and such.

Both are good. The only downside to a small yard is you are also limited in your ability to expand, should the need arise.
