The thing about casino's ( a few of them up here ) is that the majority of folks who patronize the casino's have no business being in a casino. If a casino opens on LI, the majority of the "customers" will be those who collect checks from the state & the Fed's. I'm just sayin'

Yes, it certainly does seem the VAST MAJORITY of any casino floor population is a senior citizen rolling through in their Medicare paid for "Rascal scooter" or power chair or toddling along to the slot machines leaning on their 4-legged canes. What gives? They don't need their Social Security checks for things like food and shelter? Anyone: just go stand outside a place where they bus people to Atlantic City ... you will see mostly seniors getting on.
And I wonder how much more the MTA will tax my payroll -- which is comprised of all non MTA commuting employees?
LI is going to need an awfully big tube of lube if this all comes to pass.
Since you brought it up ... does anything get deducted tax-wise for the MTA from the employees on their paychecks? Reason I ask is I know someone who works on LI as an employee and he SWEARS that the MTA tax is taken out of his paycheck. I thought it was a payroll tax employers paid, not an additional tax all the employees paid. Care to shed some light?

The Employers Pay the Tax- however from the moments the tax was concieved, we all know it will only be a matter of time before it trickles down to the employee.
Also independent self run business, as well as a few jobs like realty where commission is key- can end up coming out of the individuals check.
ONTOP of that- I'd like to point out to the original posters- that if the MTA isn't willing to expand LIRR to meet a huge project like the lighthouse, it's a fat chance they do anything in Suffolk County to connect a Casino.

It does NOT come out of the employee's check. It is based upon payroll I report to the state each quarter. (I believe the form it is based off of is the MN45. I don't have the paperwork handy at this moment.)

TY for the answer.
Good point ... I doubt they will offer rail to the casino as the MTA, particularly the LIRR portion, is all about soaking the commuters (and even non-commuters as evidenced by this tax) as much as possible ... not "really" about providing transportation alternatives for overcrowded roads and helping the environment. That's just a byproduct of their business, not something they would care enough about to actually spend money or add service.

TY! I figured as such when I first read about the (totally unfair) tax.
Dumb question
If there was to be a "INDIAN" run Casion, why would it not be on indian tribal land?
Or is the fix in
