I think you really may be having an effect. It wasn't until the last few years that I have ever even heard of some of these places. I know the news still gets it "wrong" a lot of the time, but I am noticing them using the "correct" geography more and more.
Hi, I live in N. Massapequa (13yrs.), Farmingdale school district. I chose to send my girls to Maria Regina (private) but the family accross the street has their children in Albany Avenue, (then to the middle school, Howitt, then to Farmingdale)...I also have a good friend who is in Plainedge school district. Her daughter just started middle school. I feel that if you keep a tight hold on your kids, they will be fine, but I can also tell you that if your child is very smart, they can benefit from such a big school, if your child needs help they too will benefit...its the ones in the middle that tend to get lost.
We are currently thinking of relocating to FL, and I can tell you that Farmingdale School district will definetly lower the resale value of your home. But if you do like the area there are other school options.
