Post 911 has definately changed my view of information technology.
It's all readily available information. If a terrorist wanted to find out for himself, all he/she would have to do is buy a ticket, and:

-Watch YouTube videos of certain approaches and take-offs.
-Look at a map to see where landmarks are.
-Look at a flight tracking website to see a flight's path.

So what are we supposed to do? Are we supposed to blindfold passengers? Permanently shut the window screens? Confiscate compasses and/or people's sense of direction? Destroy all maps? Close flight tracking websites that aviation personnel (like myself) rely on?

The 9/11 terrorists went on test runs, and prepared for it for years. If they hadn't they wouldn't have known what they were doing. So far, beefed up security, air marshals, and locked cockpits have been doing the trick for the most part. Let's hope it stays that way. IMO there's no sense in being paranoid about it, that's just letting them win.

I always thought the direction of the plane would be :

- Down during landing
- Up during take off

Today, right now, is one of those rare days when planes at LAX are taking off to the east.

You can see the wind direction is coming from the east here:
