Default I sorta know this block

I have a friend who literally lives on this block, probably either the next door building or one more down. I stayed there for a week. Seemed not too dangerous coming from Chicago, but keep your wits about you for sure. If you have gated parking that's the key. There's a school across the street that causes parking restrictions starting at 6am or some ungodly early hour so if you have friends staying over that park on the street, they will have to keep moving their car every two hours to avoid getting tickets or towed.

I might rent an apt there.

The closest main street is Hollywood blvd, between Wilton and Western.

Here are some crime statistics for that zip - notice that the Personal Crime rate (crimes against persons) is almost double the national average.

I am from New York struggling Actor/Comedian just thought I would try and help out if I could.Just logged on here about a minute ago.Anyway I live in Westwood good area near UCLA don't know what you can afford.I am real safe here granted a little ****ing bored here. Being from New York it's more of a people adjustment than anything. My advice to a fellow New Yorker shop around and live where it feels right. It's hard to say what's good and bad out here when it's bad it's bad.Sorry for the ****ty advice.I got on a plane and looked around in areas I thought were nice. Like anything pockets of poverty next to pockets of luxury.Good luck Jason

That area is not too hot. You have a mix of low income mexican and recently immigrated armenians. Mix that weird conflict with the general crime of hollywood and it could be more of a problem than its worth.

Just down the street on sunset blvd, and some of the neighboring n/s streets there are the weekly rental apartments/weekly hotels, where you have individuals who are unable to maintain a monthly rental agreement or move around alot. basically low class prostitutes, junkies, out of state/town kids who have come to hollywood for some unknown delusion/reason.

I would suggest you pay more rent and get into a nicer area. Assuming you are going to work in the hollywood area, try and find something in west hollywood or be a guy that can say "I live 3 blocks east of beverly hills" or even further North/East of the carlton bldg over by hillhurst and franklin area. I cant vouch 100% for the latter, but its better than where your looking.

Yes, I live just northeast in Los Feliz. Once you go west of Western, it's best to stay as close to Franklin (or above) as possible. There are some icky blocks in there. There are also a couple streets where homeowners have all restored their gorgeous Craftsman homes...it's hit and miss.

If it were only a block north or a block east, this would make all the difference in the world. Good news is you're really close to Thaitown and Hollywood and Western where there's Starbucks, Jamba, Ralph's, Quizno's, etc. Griffith Park entrance is a very short walk from this location. There are lots of nice funky storefronts along Hollywood Blvd. I never feel unsafe walking in this neighborhood at night. This didn't used to be the case. As it's East Hollywood, it's still gritty. If you're getting a good deal on rent...maybe. If not, look north or east.

I just wanted to add to what I wrote yesterday...I know this building. It's a modern peach colored stucco, 2 levels of subterranean parking (very important). The building to the right is a cute 20's Deco building (more my taste) and to the left is a 2-story duplex that's been for sale for a while. Across the street is a school. The block itself is pretty clean. Lots of Russian, Armenian, Latino in this quadrant. Building is clean. 1 block west is kinda icky. This is a 1 block walk to the Red Line station at Hollywood and Western. If you have a top floor unit toward the rear or in the rear, you may have Hollywood sign views.

I would just avoid Hollywood altogether. Look into Westwood or Burbank. Parking in Hollywood is a hassle anyway.
