I need to be near Sherman Oaks/Encino/Studio City for work, and want a downtown type area to walk/shop/eat. Any such place near there?

I cannot drive and may use public transportation some.

I need to fly out of Burbank fairly often.

Any ideas.

Ventura blvd area of Sherman Oaks (galleria), seems to have all that.

Actually the orange line ends at the NOHO station and from their the Burbank commuter service bus goes from there to the airport. You can also take the orange line in the other direction to Warner Center for more shopping/eating choices.

Burbank, CA : noho to empire

I never thought that Burbank had much of a downtown feel but maybe I haven't explored it enough. Nearby Glendale probably has the most interesting downtown now that the Americana opened plus the Galleria. Pasadena is probably too far away in the opposite direction but it also have a really nice downtown with Old Pasadena and the Paseo Pasadena plus Lake Street. But going toward Sherman Oaks, anywhere along Ventura Blvd is cool. Also NoHo [North Hollywood] near the Red Line is nice.

anywhere along ventury blvd should meet your needs, it's a sort of 'linear' downtown for the entire valley.
