Admittedly I am not real up to date on the job situation but when I go here Jobs in Los Angeles, CA | Indeed.com and enter just about any job description, plenty come up. Serious question, are these not valid?

Sure, there's job postings but there's tons of highly qualified people competing for that job.

There were 134,724 jobs listed in Los Angeles area alone.
Here are the counts by salary ranges
$20,000+ (124945)
$40,000+ (86876)
$60,000+ (56504)
$80,000+ (28433)
$100,000+ (14593)

Looks like a good variety there. I am sure there are more from companies and government agencies that don't use the online services to post ads. What's going on? I really never looked into this before but I am surprised. Are a lot of these ads stale? Duplicate? Maybe that is it, but it sure looks like a lot of opportunities.

These may be duplicated by the lists Indeed provides.

there's like 300 applicants per opening. not really, but there are way more applicants than needed, including well qualfiied ones. also, a lot of jobs require something like 3-5 years exp. doing the exact same position, so it's hard if you're starting out in the job market.

If there's plenty of jobs, why is the unemployment rate 12.5% and why are many people underemployed?

Yeah I mean there might be tens of thousands of openings but hundreds of thousands (or more) people looking.

That is the big question. If there were so many applicants per position, there would be far fewer posted positions. I doubt the LA area churns through that many jobs.

I don't have the answers, I am not even sure of the data (# of posted openings) I was just surprised there are so many openings. Maybe I will apply for some and see what happens. Oh, maybe one that is looking for a job should.

I began responding to job advertisements for a certain medical electronic manufacturer in the North SFV when I graduated from college some decades ago (too many). A couple decades passed and I finally landed a job there, worked there for 3-4 years, and I got to know the people in HR. I asked them why they had ignored my numerous resumes and applications, and discovered that they are always cruising for resumes, file them, then sort through them when they need to hire somebody.

Some or many of the job advertisements are just trolling for resumes. Just because a job is advertised does not mean there are any openings.

The people in LA are way more upbeat compared to dozens of cities. You have perfect weather much of the year...come on.

That sure helps. I never appreciated CA weather until I moved away.
