Move to Ca, give it a try and then tell us you are not worried, you have no idea what it is like.

if you really have talent or looks, whatever you think will get you into the entertainment world, start where you are. How much little theatre work have you done? Have you been paid for your talents, do you have an agent in Los Angeles, do you know anyone there, do you have a professional profile?

As has been said, the days of being discovered at the neighborhood market have long disappeared. I think you would be better off waiting til someone finds you rather than your trying to find Hollywood. Of course, like has been mentioned you migh make it in porn movies (even that is not a sure thing) or you might end up selling drugs or yourself.

It might sound hard, but you are among the thousands every year who have the same dream with no money and no way of supporting yourself once you arrive. Probably not more than one of all those ever make it.

Oh, BTW I just read some of your other postings, maybe you need to decide what your really want to do before you make any moves what so ever. here you want to be an actress, but you also have posted you want to go to college and major in communications and then Public relations maybe. Then you talk about Public Administration. You ask us about moving to Los Angeles to become an actress, but on another thread you want to know about colleges that are not in Ca cause Ca colleges are too selective. Wow!!!!

…and that makes you extremely vulnerable…confusion, no money to speak of, no job, running away from a bad situation, no support group in LA…There’s nothing wrong with dreaming and wanting to change your life but, and this is basically what others are saying, you have to do it from a position of strength. That is, you take calculated risks, instead of just doing what seems to feel good at the moment. You develop a well thought-out plan with backups.

There’s an old saying that’s actually true: Act in haste, repent at leisure.Take a breather and reconsider your options. Maybe talk with an older and trusted relative, because you sound like you are under tremendous pressure.

Minus a devastating earthquake, LA is not going anywhere! What’s wrong with putting your LA dreams on hold until you have thought things through? Can you get a local job and room with someone while you sort out your goals, relatively free from parental pressure, and then decide if school and/or trying for an acting career is right for you?

Here is something else to consider, come out here anyway without adequate funds, a job, or a support network, and you will very likely find someone who understands you, has been there, sides with you against your parents; and maybe even feeds you, lets you borrow a little bit of money, offers free drugs to ease the pain, or puts you up for the night; and is ready to use you in the worst way.

You guys are all so harsh! I agree that the OP may be somewhat naive but to suggest she will end up in porn is just mean. Only a certain type of male/female would enter that world and to assume she's just going to be shoved into it is stupid!

Realistically though $2000 won't last for very long and if you don't know anyone in LA who can point you in the right direction I think you will find it very difficult. If your dream really is to act, and that's very important because unless you have that undying passion you don't stand a chance-even if you do you chances are very slim. Get yourself into acting classes and figure out if it's what you really want to do, you may also discover you have absolutely no talent, in which case it's a no go-we already have too many talentless actors that we're subjected to!

Bottom line, keep saving (a lot more) and get into classes. Go to College, there's many schools with great acting programs, that way you further your education, get a degree and experience/training. I believe in following your dreams, remember anything is possible.......unlikely but possible!

How old are you (just wondering!).

What's ugly is the weird slightly gleeful tone that some people on these forums have when they talk about the OP (or anyone wanting to come here to "make it" in showbiz) going into porn or the escort service. It's pretty disturbing.

It doesn't feel like "just trying to help" to me. It feels sadistic, misogynistic, and mean.

I think some of those commenting are simply trying to give this young woman a sharp dose of reality. OP seems young, no contacts out here, not nearly enough money, not sure what she wants to do, no education past high school.

The part of your comment that I bolded is exactly how the entertainment industry is.

OP, my advice is to continue your education where you are and to work on your acting where you are. After that, see how you feel and what's going on with the economy at that point.

i sure wish some folk had been as hard on me when i ran away from home at 16 to go live in a sketchy apartment in atlanta with no job, being circled by pimps, welcomed with open arms by many sketchy characters, and (almost) finagled into becoming a prostitute because i had no street smarts or common sense. i grew up but quick, and anyone denying the dangers is just being blind.

that doesn't mean she is gonna get "turned out" when she steps off the bus. it just sounds like she doesn't have a solid plan and a solid plan is like a seaworthy vessel- it will carry you through most dangers.

then again, even if someone had came down hard on me about the very real dangers of life in a city you are not accustomed to or supported in i wouldn't have listened anyway. ten years and many dead friends later i was ready to listen, but by then i didn't need telling.
