Also, I'm going over to El Segundo on Sunday. Will there be a Winchell's nearby? I'm not familiar with that area, and again Google is not helping. I throw myself on the mercy of the L.A. forum as I've only three weeks left here and must have a Winchell's donut before I go.
If you're going to be in El Segundo DO NOT GO TO WINCHELLS, the reason I say this is because of:I used to work at the airport and this place was by far the best donut shop I've been to anywhere. You can thank me later

Let's not forget Stan's, as long as the subject is L.A. doughnuts.

Welcome To Stan's Doughnuts

I could go for this grilled cheese sand: Cheesy Mac & Rib: macaroni and cheese with sharp cheddar, bbq pork, & caramelized onions.

From here.

Most excellent, Fontucky. Nothing says L.A. like the sound of the lunch truck horn.

I know!

Two places I wouldn't rob - in this order:

1. Donut Shops
2. Police Stations

I remember back in the 80's when croissants were a hot fad, most of the shops were owned by Korean immigrants.
I remember hearing about this Cambodian connection and that they were the ones who started the whole pink box thing (I could be wrong).

Anyone know where I could get a donut made the old fashioned way?
The dough sweetened with Cuban sugar from pre-Batista plantations, and fried in the tallow of three different animals, two of which are now extinct.

I don't know where this came from. For one, Crawford's markets (in So Cal) used pink boxes for their donuts in the late 60's, early 70's. Well before the Cambodians started coming here.
