not all mexicans hate blacks here, most get along fine. its really only the gangs and immigrants that have issues with blacks.

blacks do have it tougher out here, but don't believe all the media lies about black-brown tension. that stuff is overblown.

I agree, most Mexicans seem ambivalent to my presence. That being said their isn't the camaraderie like in NYC.

Black people and Latinos hollering at each other with genuine love and affection, like I saw in Harlem just earlier this week..

The primary cause of this change as others have said is gentrification and it is happening across the land. College grads can't afford the established haunts, so create new ones in the neighboring areas.

Is LA in danger of losing all of it's African American communites?
Is San Francisco in danger of losing it's artistic/hippy community?

Is Laguna Beach in danger of losing what's left of it's gay community?

Is San Diego slowly losing it's military community?

...Well, yes, yes and yes!

Change happens. Why lament over it? You either evolve and deal, or you get out of the way!

Funny, but I don't remember anyone asking the original, working-class white residents of Compton and Inglewood (ca. 1920s--1950s) how they felt about being pushed out of their communities by incoming black people at the time?

Because race relations were different in 1920 than today.

The City Data PC police will arrest you if you dare discuss how LA is in danger of losing all of its white communities.

Wrong sweety!

Whites were pushed out of Compton and Inglewood by rising crime rates and deterioration of the social climate that always accompanies such.

Mexican gangs and immigrants can have issues with blacks because California is one of the few places in the country where they have the upper hand solely due to their numbers. Back east where the numbers are less in their favor they stay in their place.

But many are moving back to Southern California, unfortunately.

Gentrification is a viscous cycle..All throughout CA, we are seeing huge amounts of displaced Blacks and Latino's. Including here in San Diego.

San Diego is already and still is a very white City/County compared to the majority of CA cities as the Military brings a lot of Mid-West/ Southern Whites to SD with a major segregation problem with all the poor minorities living South of the City and County. The segregation issues are much worse here than in other cities in CA from what I can tell.

So the gentrification here hits us harder, because there's less places for the poor to relocate unlike in L.A. where there's hundreds of more communities for the poor to move to.

I won't be surprised that in 10 more years when the new census is released, that the White population will increase by large margins.

Gentrification started with redevelopment force by City leaders, and in many instances is rejected by longtime community residents as they know in this case the bad outweighs the good.

It's interesting how redevelopment was pushed so hard by the Cities of CA in the early 2000's, and is beloved by developers because not only did they get huge gov subsidies by the cities for many of their projects, but the scheme that is played out which the positives of cleaning up bad neighborhood, removing blight, and increasing property values does absolutely nothing for the people in those bad area's because the majority of the new development is catered to attract the wealthy. Over time these people perceive the area to be "safe" to invest into. And people with money are all mostly White.

I don't know if these White hipsters or Gentrifiers are actually aware of what they are doing, but it has caused widespread homeless issues across CA, and has priced out basically everyone that isn't making over 100K a year.

Eventually there will be a huge exodus of not only poor folks from CA but middle class Californians. I still to this day don't understand how everyone survives working at a Walmart, a Crackdonalds, Gas station, or mid level paying jobs like a clerk or a secretary and expect to rent be able to buy property.

The difference between CA and most other states is that the working man everywhere else can support his family, paying a mortgage, and having extra money in his bank account at the end of the month. In CA the working man is lucky if he can even feed himself with whatever is left over.
