We are looking at renting at LEAST a one-bedroom in one of these cities come September:

-Mar Vista
-Westchester
-Marina del Rey
-Playa del Rey
-West Culver City, or Culver City bordering the 405 on the east.

We need to stay along the freeway. We also need an apartment/ guest house that takes cats, has hardwood floors, and a REAL kitchen (none of this bogus "kitchenette" b.s.)

Do you think this is possible to find??

We're currently paying $1025 for a nice-sized 1-bedroom in Costa Mesa close to Newport Beach. Obviously things are WAY different in L.A. Any advice is appreciated!!!

You can find a 1 bedroom in any of those places for $1500-1600. It'll take some work to find a place with hardwood floors and will take your cat, but I'm sure they're out there with that budget.

Most (all?) one bedrooms will have a full kitchen. You typically only see kitchenettes in studio apartments.

You *may* be able to find a 2 bedroom in westchester or mar vista with that budget.
