I usually (well, most of the time) find myself saying "like" in every sentence, does it happen to you too ?
And not only me, it seems that everyone in LA uses "like" like every 3 seconds
Just pay attention when you are talking to somebody, they would say "like, you know, its like.." every 5 seconds. I cant even control it, it just comes out.

How old are you? Don't do it in a job interview.

Slap yourself and anybody else for every instance of "like" popping up in conversation. Same for every "lol" typed.

Ban the Verbal Crutch.

I don't think it's just an LA/SoCal thing. I've heard other people from other states say that too. I think it's a generation thing. I say "like" a lot as well. Oops, excuse me.

It isn't just a SoCal thing, I have come across this where I live as well. Definitely don't use like in that context in a job interview

I never talked this way and discourage my kids from developing that pattern.

IMO, it's a generational affliction that dumbs speech down. I first heard it in 1989 when we moved to CA from the east coast. It was quite pathetic to hear then and still is. I don't take anyone who speaks like this seriously.

Me neither.

It's intellectually lazy. Can be traced back to the whole "valley girl" thing in the '80's, as sort of a cute thing little hotties at the mall and high school would do, a form of slang the 'cool kids' could identify with. Actually just made 'em sound rather stupid and annoyingly repetitive.

Like, ohhh myyy gawwwd, gag me with a hot, steaming pile of "like"! I'm so sure! [SLAP]

Take ownership of this, please.

It's not LA's fault. Nor is it necessarily yours, but you want to fix it so start dealing with it.

I hear people from other countries such as Australia, Ireland and the UK saying it, mostly girls. I used to talk this way for a bit, until I had to do a speech class and my teacher wrote down I said it too much. I also started with "um" before sentences. I learned to stop doing both plus cursing every other word. That ticks me off, as well.
