I'm looking for a cheap, but safe and clean way to get to Las Vegas from the Santa Monica area. I know Spirit Airlines and LuxBus already, but being new to the area I'm wondering if there is something I am missing. I have traveled Greyhound before and did not like it.

Any other suggestions?

MegaBus..I haven't taken but heard good things..they recently reentered the L.A market

megabus.com | Now serving over 20 million bus customers in North America

They leave from Union Station though...not Santa Monica...but seats are as low as $1..even their more expensive seats seem a lot cheaper than greyhound

I did a quick Google Maps search..looks like the 10 bus goes from Santa Monica direct to union station..

Definitely check out megabus, though you would have to haul yourself to Union Station. Southwest is a good airline with great rates if you book early enough, but definitely not as a last minute thing.

Just curious to know what you didn't like about Grehound. Was it riding a bus in general or just one or two bad trips? We took MegaBus a few weeks ago to Vegas and really liked it. It's not the first, or the last, time we were MegaBus passengers. It was clean, mostly very quiet, and got us there and back without any hassles.

We did learn that it no longer makes the rest stop in Barstow because people were taking much longer than the time alloted and were being left behind; so the bus company just eliminated the stop altogether. People who go to Vegas need to bring something to eat and drink if they think they're going to want anything on the way. It takes 6 hours The only other stop they make, to pick up passengers, is Riverside. When they get to Vegas they stop at the South Strip Transfer Terminal. From there you can catch the Deuce, that goes up and down the strip, or the SDX to Fremont St. By the way, for anyone reading this who may be going to Las Vegas, the El Cortez Hotel, at the beginning of Fremont East was a very nice place and inexpensive, even on the weekend.

We were lucky and got $1 tickets both ways since we made reservations about 2 months in advance. Sometimes you can get cheap seats of 1, 2, 3, and 5 dollars without making reservations that far in advance if your travel times are flexible. Even the seats at the last minutes were less than what you'd expect. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
