It really varies street by street.

But the really rough is Southeast part of South Central...Watts, Florence-Firestone, East Compton...

View Park, Windsor Hills, Baldwin Vista, and Baldwin Hills are nice neighborhoods already.

As for Leimert Park, what happened after the Zimmerman verdict and the "knockout game" scare (even though there is scant evidence for any "knockout" attacks in L.A. , only rumors) will keep gentrification and hipsters out. There will be Van Nuys or even Sun Valley gentrification before Leimert Park gentrification.

Black gangs in L.A. will have to go the way of white gangs in L.A. before there's deeper South LA gentrification.

They are nice areas, but the are black neighborhoods that non-black people are moving into. Some maybe classified as somewhat bohemian or hipster.

White people moved into the black parts of Venice and Santa Monica, but I know you will say this is different because the riots did not happen there.

We'll see what happens with Leimert. There is lots of interest in the area currently. The endangered World Stage is attracting more people that are not part of the black community. Investors are buying up property near the expo line and increasing rents.

Santa Monica never had a black area. Pico has a few blacks and used to have a few more but it's been predominately Latino since as long as anyone can remember, since at least WW2.

I remember it differently then. Pico had a small black population when I would hang there.

South Central is bigger than the whole borough of Manhattan & tiny Harlem can't even compare,Maybe to Compton but not to South Central.

South L.A has areas like Baldwin hills that boost one of the richest Black communities in the whole America.

Crenshaw is a nationwide known street, liemert park,Famous swapmeets & the Mlk parade are just a few great things about South Central.

Nope. Harlem was worse. Harlem still has among the highest crime rates in NYC. So don't buy the hype.
