For the last month I have been interviewing with a company out in LA and finally received an offer last week. Will be packing up my car and driving out to LA to start the new job right after Memorial Day Weekend. I will be living with my girlfriend for close to 6 months in Hermosa Beach as we are close to signing on our apartment out there. I received an offer with a company out there to start at 55k and will be about 15 miles away from where I am living. On top of all these I have your basic bills as a 23 yrd old would, car payment, phone, student loans, cell phone. Nothing major, from what I have heard Hermosa Beach is a great area to live in and I have a friend who works at the company now living in Santa Monica. Tell me some tips and things I need to know! I have heard plenty of horror stories but enlighten me. On my salary I am not worried the least bit as there is still room to go and I know it may get tough but realistically I will be receiving about 3k a month so I have wiggle room. Thanks!

Welcome to California! Your friend will be a better reference than most on this forum as he knows you better. This forum has a higher concentration of cynics than in real life. You will do fine

How much is your half of the rent? 55k should be a decent income if you're splitting bills with your gf but it depends on how much your rent is.

The south bay is nice and laid back but there's more of a beach / fraternity boy culture there than you'll find in Santa Monica. Hard to go wrong living in either place though.

1 post over a year ago, I don't think you'll get an answer from the OP

Sorry, just had to.

Prepare to hate your life.

A commute longer than 5 miles = hell and it's not a joke.

I also moved here from the Detroit area.

Save yourself and stop the lease at all costs and get something within a 5 mile radius of your job.

edit -

oh wow, just realized this thread is almost 2 years old -_-
