Rent Control lol. Now im not experienced in SM renting but i bet that's more of a mirage than real. Anyone in a rent controlled building will never leave and you can only imagine the number of folks lining up the day they roll that person outta the building. Not that easy brahs.

I live in a rent controlled building.

I pay 1650, 2 blocks from the beach, north of Wilshire.

location: amazing
price: amazing
noise levels: terrible

i dont know if its just my building but the landlord is a d-bag.

1. washer makes terrible noise
2. paper thin walls & squeaking ceiling noises from neighbors

if they fixed the noise issue, id be living here forever.

i dont know how much more i'll be able to stay here till i snap.

i sleep with ear plugs.

I can tell you, YoungTraveler, there is very little chance of anyone fixing the noise level or anything not prescribed by law. The landlord has no incentive to keep you there as the foundation of the free market system has been removed.

Businesses, including landlords, improve services if it'll bring in more money. But with rent controlled buildings, rents are fixed.

Why should landlords pay for improvements or more services, if they can't charge more rent? Just to make tenants happier? What are tenants doing to make the landlord happier? They're certainly not offering to pay more to get more.

That's why I'm personally going to fix my issues.

I guess we're lucky...we live in a rent-controlled building as well. The fixtures are far from new, but our landlord is very responsive and keeps things running.

People do still leave rent-controlled buildings for perfectly normal reasons - "I got a job on the other side of town/moving to another state/moving in with my significant other" etc.

(Edit) Oh snap - that tool shows you the allowable rent for ALL of the units in your building. I'm very jealous of some of my neighbors right about now. (The ones who've apparently been there since the 90's, haha.)
