Hi,
We are relocating to Los Angeles from Bergen County in NJ.
Our experience with our current school system has been excellent.

I am looking to get your feedback on the school system in Calabasas or maybe Woodland Hills (or other recommendations??). I have a 2nd grader and Kindergartner. My second grader is receiving special ed services here for a learning disability.

Any opinions on the school system other than "Calbasas is good"? Outstanding special education is a must for us and overall I would like to know how the schools compare to those we have here in the northeast.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!!
-Anxious Mom

The Las Virgenes School District is excellent. And yes, that is the school district which serves Calabasas. Very good public schools.

Woodland Hills is a district within the city of Los Angeles and is served by the LA Unified School District. A big bumbling burreacratic mess. With that said, Woodland Hills has some good public schools but not as good as Calabasas. Both are good areas for families. Boring as hell otherwise...though I still prefer them both over New Jersey. No offense..lived in NJ briefly once. I'll take So.Calif. all day long over NJ. Good luck to you.

Thank you so much! I did hear that LAUSD was a mess, but thought maybe (hopefully?) I could choose a more affordable home there whose location allowed for the better public schools (a little more bang for my buck so to speak). Any other recommendations on other good school districts in the valley? Commuting is a non-issue for us. I just don't want to lock in to Calabasas if there are other choices (within our price range of 750K-800K for a 3BD).

I appreciate your help!

Yes, but they're in the next valley north---the Conejo Valley. Look for Oak Park USD and Conejo Valley USD.
