Hi All,

I was wondering how the commute is from Santa Clarita to Mid-Wilshire and Westwood? Also, if you could provide the best routes to take. We usually have to get to work around 8/9 AM and will usually get off work around 5-6 PM.

Any insight would be great!

Thanks so much!

Santa Clarita to Westwood is arguably the worst commute in the country. The only route is really the 405 S.

Santa Clarita to Mid-Wilshire is better but not great. You could try the 170 S to the 101 S.

Do you have a helicopter by any chance?

i believe there is a commuter bus from the santa clarita area to westwood, which may be worth considering. mid wilshire has no easy freeway access, so you're out of luck there for commuter bus options. either way, you're looking at a 1.25-1.5 hour commute each way.

I'm going to agree wholeheartedly with this comment. When I saw the topic, I cringed.

After a month, you're going to either change jobs or change homes.

I totally agree with all the above, you'll be cruising with horrible traffic, regardless of the route you take. The Mid-Wilshire area is SO FAR from the freeways, that regardless of which freeway and route you choose, it will take you at least 20 minutes additional, from the freeway, to get to your work location. I worked right next to The Grove on Fairfax and 3rd for 10 years, and have tried every which way to get there. Always at least 20 minutes, if not more (like when the president's in town, there's an industry event, or there's an accident).

I know several people who make similar commutes but to Santa Monica (about the same route and time). Some come from Calabassas, one from Santa Clarita and another from Agua Dulce.

These people get up early. They get to work before 6:30 and still spend at least an hour driving. They also stay late. I don't know why they live out there, but for whatever reason it is home and they do it. Most have all sorts of car time amusements. They have their podcasts to listen to, have long phone conversations (via blue tooth I assume), listen to audiobooks, etc... handheld phone use is illegal in california.

They actually complain less than commuters from shorter distances because really no one is going to give them anything other than grief for choosing to drive from so far away. Two of them are severely obese and I wondered if they suffer from conditions like people with those vein issues on long flights. It just seems like a miserable existence. But they do it, year after year.
