I know Manhattan Beach the best, but I think of all of the beach cities as pretty family-friendly, and would throw El Segundo in there as well.

My perception could be biased, since we have small kids and are very familiar with that life. If you were a single twenty-something spending most of your time at the bars near the HB pier and nice restaurants in downtown MB, I guess another person might see things differently.

One of the many reasons that makes it a complete opposite..

No. All of the South Bay is kid friendly. They're everywhere. El Segundo, Manhattan, Redondo, TORRANCE (the epitome of boring suburbia where new parents go to retire and die), the entire PV peninsula. Torrance is basically kidtopia. Everyone is a family living in a SFH. Hermosa is the only exception, but mainly just in the downtown area. The parts of Hermosa furthest from downtown have a lot of kids too still.

Actually Redondo Beach can be a bit seedy down by the pier as well. I wouldn't say it's dangerous but I wouldn't want my pre-teen child walking around there unattended. Too many questionable folks walking around. Manhattan Beach is unique in it's Rockwellian perfection where only wealthy people can afford to live there and there's no real party scene to attract the bros and drunks.

Overall though, south Redondo is still very family friendly as well. Much more so than Venice. Around the same as Santa Monica aside from North of Montana.

Venice is a pretty low bar to be setting however. The homes are not cheap but there are too many homeless people, drug addicts and younger people looking for a 'good time' who flock there especially on the weekends. The Venice boardwalk is a straight up freak show.

I wonder when people say family friend and perfect do the main white. Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach are much white than Venice. So if you're looking for racial/ethnic diversity, and if you aren't white yourself you might not be so interested in living in Hermosa or Manhattan Beach for some rather obvious reasons.

Not always of course....As a black guy I wouldn't mind living in any of those places TBH. I need to grow 6 inches and develop a jump shot but you could def be in worse places.

The lack of diversity and the bubble that the South Bay builds around itself from the rest of LA is why I dislike it. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful area to have a family. But personally, I could never live there. For being in LA County, next to LA city, and part of one of the most diverse metro areas in the entire world, it's quite bland. Since I have no plans right now to have kids or possibly ever, other areas of LA seem much more appealing. Most of the beachfront parts of LA are quite white-washed, but Venice is probably the most diverse of them all, even with its hipster culture.

TBH.....your gonna be dissapointed for the rest of your life. If diversity is the answer...not too many places. Just be happy with what you have.
