Hi! My roommate and I have moved from Chicago to Riverside a few months back. We found a steal 2br/2bath near UCR for $945, however living in the IE has its downs. The weather can be unbearable, the people are a-holes and getting in to school out here is stressful due to overpopulation (community college for now due to crazy out of state tuition fee).

We are looking to move somewhere in the LA County (Long Beach area or West Hollywood) and I'm trying to research neighborhoods/areas that are affordable and safe enough for college students. I know near college campuses people usually offer rent specials and such and we are well aware that we will be paying more than what we pay now. If anyone can suggest any areas where we don't have to worry about sus gangs/crime but also don't have to pay an arm and a leg it would greatly be appreciated. We plan on taking a trip to visit the areas, but just need a little help.

We're from Chicago so we're not sheltered paranoid kids but Id prefer to not be in between gang wars and such. All suggestions help unless you're being a douche! Thanks!

You could have picked any neighboring university around Illinois, for significantly less money and yet you still came all the way from the midwest for schools you have less than a 30% chance of getting into ever for the rest of eternity. Such bravery.

If you want to save money on rent and have great weather, go to the Sierra Nevada and go to community college in that region.

All options are dependent on specifying budget. "Affordable" means nothing.

thanks, wish I could say the response was helpful but it was not haha. I already attend school out here, so school is not the issue. However I mentioned that it is difficult to get into these schools due to population because it is a con and my roommate has had that issue (accepted, yet not many available classes pertaining to his major). I'll still take a look into Sierra Nevada though. Thanks again!
