I'm a student from Ireland and I am hoping to move to California for the summer (june-september). Can anyone advise me on how I could find some employment and a possible homestay family?

You may have a difficulty finding temporary summer employment.

I manage vacation rentals and rented to 2 wonderful girls from Ireland last summer. They planned on staying 3 months. After one month they went back to Ireland due to the fact they couldn't find employment.

Most companies are reluctant to hire short term. Overall, it costs too much with a high turnover, especially if they know you're only going to be there for a short period of time.

But, it's worth a try and I do wish you luck !!!

paula,

could you please post to hipbones in the other "summer in LA" thread? four girls from the UK might be in need of a place this year. i suggested a vacation rental as an alternative to a hotel. you would be able to give them information regarding cost and so forth.

thanks.

kate
