I've learned not to go back and forth with that person. It is utterly pointless, trust me.

Caltrans should just install Entering Metropolitan Area signs. They have signs for local regions (San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley, etc), why not metro areas?

Entering
Greater Los Angeles Area (L.A. Co, OC, I.E., Ven Co.)
* This sign could be at places like Camp Pendleton or the Grapevine (Tejon Pass).

Entering
San Diego-Tijuana International Border Metro (SD Co, Tij, Ros, Tec)
*This sign could be at Camp Pendleton or in Fallbrook/Rainbow. Tijuana keeps getting bigger.

Entering
Palm Springs Metro Area (Some maps dont consider it part of the I.E. & Greater LA)
* This sign could be at Whitewater (the eastern end of the San Gorgonio Pass) or at the Chiriaco Summit. This metro area could also include the Morongo Basin to the north.

Entering
El Centro-Yuma-Mexicali International Border Metro
*This could be the smallest and least populated metro area of SoCal which also extends into neighboring western Arizona & the northeastern part of Baja California del Norte & northwest Sonora.

I was born here so maybe it's impossible to make a tourist see it the way i do. There's no "real" city limit. Once you exit a certain suburb you enter another one without a disruption in rural land. Constantly development along The 10 Freeway from Santa Monica to Palm Springs. that's 100+ miles.

I truly believe we will outsprawl Tokyo and Mexico City.
This. LA is its greater metro, Ventura to San Clemente to Riverside to Redlands it's all just one big area, also we all share the same public transportation system the Metrolink, if you're near that system you're in LA.
