LAPD Harbor Division captain tackles homelessness, rising crime issues

Thought this article was interesting as I've been saying this for a while that there is a large number of criminals in the homeless community in L.A , and everyone said that it wasn't true. I think an LAPD Captain knows what they are talking about.

" “many of those” living on the streets in growing homeless encampments have “significant criminal backgrounds.”"

This Captain Mike Oreb seems to be doing a great job.

He posts interesting things on twitter , like the trailers he busts that are Meth labs.
Also there are homeless encapments that have been busted hiding hundreds of stolen bicycles, etc just as some examples.

We need this type of common sense approach across the entire L.A area! Sure , not all homeless are criminals..but let's at least try to get the criminals off the street.

No doubt. I've overheard a homeless LA guy said he couldn't get a job due to criminal background. That's a major cause of homelessness, but not the only one.

Many of these people went to ****ty public schools and maybe didn't graduate from public high schools. This is called the school to prison pipeline.

You also have untreated mental illness and addiction among this population.

At least in skid row, the long term homeless seem to be disproportionately Black. Add LA and the nation's past issues with racial discrimination and mass incarceration into the mix.

He's not anti homeless , just anti crime . That's what these homeless advocates don't get unfortunately .
Him cracking down on homeless crime is especially good for the non criminal homeless .

He's practices are based in reality and common sense . The " homeless advocates " are not .
