In honor of former President Obama.

LA drivers could soon add Obama Boulevard to their commute

It's Rodeo Road in South LA, not Rodeo Drive. Title is a bit misleading.

I don't really like when they change street names .seems people usually still end up calling it by the old name anyways .

Also why is the city council always spending time on this type of symbolic stuff that isnt really going to improve quality of life when there are so many serious issues in the city ?

The new name will take, even with a return of white people to Rodeo Road. I am old enough to remember when M.L. King Blvd was Santa Barbara Ave.

It will stop visitors from giving Rodeo Road the Spanish pronunciation like Rodeo Dr in Beverly Hills has instead of the English pronunciation used locally

The symbolism is hard to beat when you have King Blvd merging into Obama Blvd at its terminus at Jackie Robinson stadium

Maybe yes, maybe no. I never hear the 118 called the Ronald Reagan freeway, or Burbank Airport called Bob Hope Airport.

The 118 is different, that is like the 10 being the Santa Monica or San Bernadino, depending upon which portion you are on. Rodeo Road changing names is closer to MLK coming from Santa Barbara or Caesar Chavez from Brooklyn. President Obama had actual shrines for over 8 years in the houses of the residents of the area where MLK Blvd (all but forgotten Santa Barbara Ave) and Rodeo Road meet, like the JFK ones in Catholic households,

With a new Kaiser Permanente building going up in the empty lot that was once the Santa Barbara Plaza there is no sign at all that I can think of that still links Santa Barbara to that street, I would guess that any building kept the name it would have been burned out during the Rodney King Riots.

Oh I got another example, all the other South Bay cities changing Compton Blvd, to Marine Ave once you left the city limits of Compton, nobody seemed to worry about changing their names in that case. The City of Los Angeles never felt the need to change Compton Ave by the way.
