So me, as a black American male, hate whites, gays, Asians, and even hispanics? Did not realize I hate these people or that I was racist. Just cause I am black. Maybe I should stop hanging with my Hispanic and white friends? Or my half Mexican wife?

The last time I was in Compton, was the early 90s. I remember once , and if it wasn't in Compton, it was just out of town, either Watts or lynnwood, I stopped for gas, and I had barely just gotten out of the car when the black gas station attendant came running up to me and said, "What the F%%k you doin here, man? You gotta leave, right now!" (he wasn't threatening me....he was just genuinely concerned for my safety). I said, "ok, thanks", got back in the car, and left.

I've never had anything like that happen to me, EVER. Not in EPA, not in Oaktown, not Hunter's Point, no place.

That's how bad it was. Can't imagine its all that much better.

In the early 90’s while driving from SD to visit my sister at UCSB I somehow got on the wrong freeway, didn’t realize it, and ended up in Compton. Being a stupid teenager I got off the freeway to get gas, turnaround, and even went to McDonald’s. While it wasn’t a place I wanted to hang around it was nothing like what I experienced two years later going to college in Detroit. When classmates asked me about California I would joke saying I’d rather walk around south central LA waiving $100 bills vs walking around with my head down in Detroit. Obviously that isn’t true, but the ghetto in California is nothing like that of the Detroit or Chicago.
