On the flip side, at least it is rare for me to end up on a 'sardine bus' nowadays (I ride Metro buses frequently and I remember it used to be real bad 10 years ago)

But others are willing to put up with it. Which means more room on the freeway for you.

I have to agree that I despise taking the bus/trains, but that isn't because of the actual staff, employees, or drivers. All bad experiences I've ever had on the public transportation are all due to someone acting idiotic, entitled, or just straight rude. Doesn't stop me from riding the busses but I can see how it discourages others.

There are large areas poorly served by Metro including parts of the West Side and large parts of the Valley and South Bay.

If your commute is 20 minutes, there's no need to use public transit. That's not the case for most commuters in LA.

I never rode a bus while I lived there, but we did take the subway a lot once we first got there. (We lived walking distance to the Red Line, took it downtown regularly)

After a while though I was like, "hmm, what am I paying a payment on a Lexus for?"

It's simply because LOTS of people in L.A. have cars and would rather utilize them instead of ride on a scuzzy subway.

We had not one, but two cars, paying for them both. After the "hey it's fun, big city" part wore off I was like "No Thanks!"
