Don't remember this station -- perhaps others here do.

Before the digital age, there was AM radio and disc jockeys who broke the hits on stations like KHJ.

In director Quentin Tarantino’s new film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, not only do the sets, wardrobe, and street transformations create an authentic setting, so does the music. We are treated to Roy Head & the Traits, the Mamas & the Papas, Neil Diamond, Deep Purple, Vanilla Fudge, and Paul Revere and the Raiders, among others.

Here's a song I remember on KHJ, on the beach bus from Shadow Ranch in Canoga Park to Zuma Beach. I don't know why I remember this. KMET started in 1968, KLOS started in 1969.

Don't forget KFWB (B. Mitchell Reed, Gene Weed) and KRLA (Art Laboe, Emperor Hudson, Bob Eubanks).

Some of the bumper music for KHJ seems very similar to KRTH bumper music that I remember. I also remember the "Tina Delgado is alive" bit from KRTH. Interesting.

KHJ and KRLA were the big top-40 rivals in L.A. in the 1960s.

Actually, KFWB was one of the first radio stations in the U.S. that went to the Top-40 format. It got kicked to the curb by KHJ's Boss Radio format and subsequently went all-news in early 1968. KFWB had some great DJs.
