Thank goodness that younger children are mostly avoiding this.

Los Angeles County on Monday (3/23) provided new information about the spread of coronavirus as well as the demographics of the patients.

NEW CASES: Officials confirmed Monday there were 128 new COVID-19 cases in the county and two more deaths from the disease caused by the coronavirus. That brings the total number of fatalities in the county to seven and the total case count to 536.

DEMOGRAPHICS: Of those who have tested positive, 80% are people ages 18 to 65, and 42% are in the 18-40 age group. “This virus can infect affect people from across the board,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Public Health Department, on Monday. Those numbers are fairly in line with the statewide breakdown of COVID-19 cases as of Sunday:

Ages 0-17: 25 cases
Ages 18-49: 837 cases
Ages 50-64: 442 cases
Ages 65 and older: 415 cases
Unknown: 14 cases

HOSPITALIZATION: Ninety people who have been infected in the county have at some point been hospitalized while sick, according to Ferrer, or 17% of those who have tested positive.

That's OK. They can put up with illness and death instead! I'm good either way.

It's true that that wouldn't be accepted in America. Outside of places like China, government officials only are willing to impose any formal, disease-related restrictions on freedom because requests for self-policing are being ignored by too many people (like the guy above).

Mayor Eric Garcetti warned Los Angeles on Tuesday (3/24) that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic is still to come and that residents should be prepared for more loss of life.

Garcetti said L.A. could be six to 12 days from seeing similar numbers to the outbreak in New York City, where the death toll has dramatically increased in recent days.

“It’s coming,” Garcetti said. “The peak is not here yet. The peak will be bad. People will lose their lives.”

The mayor also rebuffed President Trump’s earlier comments that he wanted to quickly ease restrictions and said that Angelenos should be “prepared for a couple months like this.”

I know that everybody is hopeful, and some are putting out that hope of us being back in churches by Easter or synagogues by Passover or restarting the economy in a couple weeks,” Garcetti said. “I think we owe it to everybody to be straightforward and honest. We will not be back to ... that level of normal in that short period of time.”

Garcetti said that his office is still receiving daily reports of nonessential businesses that continue to operate as normal — behavior he called “irresponsible and selfish.”

Garcetti is going to milk this to the maximum, prolong it as long as possible. He doesn't care about millions of his city people terribly out of work, broke, worried. He is going to flaunt his power.

It must be the end of the world...LOL.

I agree with you, he seems almost gleeful.

And why don't they limit the trains, subways, and buses to so many passengers? Haven't heard a thing about doing that. Only allow say 50% capacity.

From the buses I have seen, a Culver City and Santa Monica bus lines run through my route or the MTA lines on the way to work, there is no need for a formal declaration. As drivers must park every few stops to avoid running to far ahead of schedule.
