All I will say in Newsom's defense is that a lot of the problem's are not of his making, but they are of Democrat policy. The Democrats have had a virtual lock on the legislature since 1970. They ARE responsible for the brownouts (seriously? brownouts in the 5th largest economy in the world?), poor water management, poor land and forest management and a bad education system (that was once a model for the nation).

Gavin shows a lot more clarity around his choice of hair gels than his COVID strategy.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic helped put him in such good graces with California voters that his approval rating is among the highest of any governor in the past 50 years at the same point in their first term, according to a new poll by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies.

But the poll released Tuesday also shows that Newsom’s popularity is being tempered by intense voter dissatisfaction over the Democratic governor’s handing of homelessness in the state and California’s high housing costs.

I know a lot of Democrats, including in my own family, who were/are very "put off" by this! Admittedly not a great look. This might just be the bullet that takes down the bear (Gavin). You see it on both sides of the aisle and it becomes acute when one has been ensconced within the confines of the political elite for too long.

No, Democrats are not responsible for brownouts. The privately owned utility PG&E is responsible for them, SMUD doesn't have brownouts I wonder why? California is in charge of 3% of public land so look to private property owners and the feds for poor forest management.

The 'bad education system' is the result of prop 13, schools were well funded and the envy of most other states before that bill became law. That law could have been structured differently with a split roll tax and allowing some appraisal adjustments to residential property like Nevada does but we've lost that opportunity twice now thanks to the money that businesses throw at any initiative that changes prop 13.

As far as water management I think the state should tell farmers who want to suck up all the fresh water with their almond trees to go pound sand and plant a crop that provides food for people in the US not treats for China and India which is where 82% of the almonds go. Like all states, California has issues I'm not aware of any state that is 'perfectly managed' if you are please share it with us.
