Hello,

I'm considering a small condo/house as a pied-a-terre that is walkable to the beach. I'm new in the US and am based out of Manhattan, NYC and have some work in NJ so I'm used to insane real estate taxes here. I'm expecting a lot less in Manhattan Beach, since Cali overall seems low in comparison. Is this generally right?

The median price of a condo in Manhattan Beach, as of April, was $1.3M. Yes, property taxes in Los Angeles (including Manhattan Beach) are lower, approx 1.25% of the assessed value at purchase and max increase of 2% annually after that. Can't tell you about HMO fees tho.

What are income taxes in NY? They are up to 9% in Cali. Sales tax is 8.25%. And then there are other various "fees", like car registration and such.
