Likely to be transferred to LA area for work (Woodland Hills) after long tenure in Washington, DC. Currently living and owning home in Georgetown, so not spooked by high real estate prices. Used to easy walking access to restaurants, bookstores, bars, etc. Late 30s single guy looking for suggestions of where to live in LA area that would not be a killer commute, but also allow for easy access to similar diversity of meeting people, restaurants, bars, etc.

Thinking Santa Monica? Thoughts?

Santa Monica to Woodland Hills would not be that easy of a drive, even if you worked in extreme western Santa Monica and used PCH - a lot of other people do too.

There have been at least two other threads I recall in the past three months or so concerning single people living/working in the west San Fernando Valley - a "singles Siberia" in a lot of ways. So, work the search tool for those.

Yes, traffic in LA is actually worse than DC if you can believe it. I go to NoVA all the time and its a close second. At least the weather is just about perfect in LA.

You might look at Studio City, Sherman Oaks, though they aren't that close either - not sure if you can use the metro buses, you might check those out. Most things west of Woodland Hills are very family suburban (as is WH, Calabasas, and the entire west San Fernando Valley in general.)
