I finally got the chance to relocate to Southern California! I was offered a position to transfer (I'm a Retail Manger) to the Third Street Promenade. I'm concerned because I know it's can be very expensive in California. Retail Salaries are not the highest ;-) but I do not live beyond my means. I'm a single, 21 year old male with very little debt (student loan debt and car loan). I would love to live close to work so I don't have to deal with a long commute (30 minutes the most).
Any advice on friendly, affordable, nice communities for young singles close by?

I'm from Colorado and have only visited California. I know I'm in for a big change. I love the big city, the weather and everything California has to offer.

Any feedback or advice is much appreciated

The problem is that the area you are moving to is very expensive. Santa Monica and neighboring coastal communities are very expensive, and most of the cheapest places will be total trash and/or in undesireable neighborhoods. Best bet may be to try and find an apt near Santa Monica Community College

it all depends on much you are willing to spend on housing.

Your best bet would be to find something east of Santa Monica.

for santa monica itself, i think that number is probably unrealistic for your own apartment(studio, 1bd probably totally out of the question). you should have no problem if you can find a place to rent a room. as far as nearby, im not too familiar, but i would suggest none of the cities directly on the coast will fit your needs. best bet would be to look near local colleges for rent that may meet those needs and also have other people in your age group.

I don't think 1000 is doable in Santa Monica
