Westside...BH to SM...

Adjust commute time to leave home <6AM and lv DLA >7PM...~30min, seamless drive...one of easier commutes in US vs comparable drives from upscale suburbs of NYC or Chic into Midtown/Loop...

10E and 10W in those times is an "upscale" route; lots of upscale workaholics blitzing from Westside to offices in DLA, busy on Bluetooth catching up w/colleagues in London/NYC....traffic is far worse in slob commute hrs in opposing directions...

Far better weather, air quality and grub on Westside than in DLA, land of foreclosed lofts and homeless....

I think that with your budget you can easily afford to live in the brand new apartment buildings or condos in Koreatown. One is located at Wilshire/Vermont station, another is near Wilshire/Normandie station and another, that is still being built, is located at Wilshire/Western. Also, there are condos in this area that were being sold for close to 300,000 that haven't sold and are now being leased. You can drive around the area and easily distinguish the brand new buildings from the older buildings. From Koreatown, you would probably be about a short ten minute drive from work. Also, this area is improving all the time with new restaurants, a new mall that will be built at Wilshire/Vermont, etc.

Without kids, I think Koreatown is an excellent idea.

No foreclosures or homeless on the Westside? Maybe that rarified Westside air makes the panhandlers look all shiny and new next to us lowly Angelenos on the Eastside and Downtown.

Nickdahammer, you made my night. ;o)

I know people make all kinds of assumptions about others based upon the section of town that one lives in. However, for anyone in Los Angeles to suggest that there are NO homeless or foreclosures on the westside is absolutely absurd. Santa Monica probably has more homeless and panhandlers per square mile than anywhere else in the entire United States. Furthermore, homes are being foreclosed everywhere in LA now, not just at downtown lofts.

Living on the westside is a status symble for many who live here. However, personally, I don't think that the extra commute time is worth it. It depends on your values.
