Knowing what I know now about cultural differences, I'm looking not only at the numbers, but also seeking a cultural fit. Is there true diversity? Easy to make friends and acquaintances? Is there a mixture of singles as well as families? Is there water (oh, how I miss the water!!)? I'd love to hear your perspective about Denver and/or other places you've heard about. Thanks.
I moved from LA to Denver 7 years ago. It's AWESOME! Other than my friends there, I don't miss a single thing about LA. If I want to go hang out in Malibu or take advantage of LA nightlife, I just catch a cheap flight out for a few days...and then get the hell out. You'll love Colorado.

Some people, like myself, escape from Los Angeles to nearby towns and cities like Simi Valley. A little bit pricier, but well worth it to escape the high crime, taggers, gangs, dirty streets and the over-abunance of Spanish speaking residents. When I left the Simi Valley area 15 months ago to take an onsite job in Van Nuys I was pretty positive and hopeful about the new opportunity. Now, I am just counting down the days until my new home in Simi Valley is ready for move-in.

I totally agree. I find Texas disgusting. I've driven all over the state on mutlitple road trips and can never wait to get out of there. I'd take Oklahoma, Nebraska -anywhere-over Texas. That place either stinks like rotten egg oil (Odessa) or cow crap (Amarillo). Whenever I drive though the state, I always wonder why the hell anyone would actually live there.

I know! People argue about Houston and Austin. Those are just smallparts of a massive state. Outside the large cities, it's nothing but fields and ranches. It's the Texan attitude I hate most of all though. They seemed really judgemental.

I've noticed this too. I can't drive anywhere without seeing a California license plate...LOL. I'm in Houston by the way.
The irony is that I am in the processing of moving to the bay area...haha.

Is city-data a predominately suburban forum, I dont really care for LA all the much, but the arguments I hear sometimes are downright ridiculous, its the second largest region in the country, obviously its not going to be as serene and beautiful as Wilmington, NC or something.

How do you know which Californians voted for what? You may not know this, but your equating Californians with those who vote in favor of more spending. Here's a reality check- not everyone in CA does that.

When you see someone in OK with CA plates, you may want to refrain from thinking you know everything about them, as well as spewing all that hateful bile seen above. Though you don't know it, doing so will make you look bad.

What parts of TX were you in when you got this? Passing through small towns or did you get this in the big cities?

I've had thoughts of moving to Dallas and though I need to visit, my expectation is that the high proportion of transplants there would make it less like heartland and its bigots with their preconceptions and prejudgments.
