I am a young Canadian woman looking to live in the U.S. (specifically California). I do not currently have a degree or diploma as I am trying to decide what to do with my life in terms of a career path. I am skilled in many areas and have diverse interests so I have struggled to decide where I would like to commit my time and money. All I know for certain is that I want to build a life in California. For some reason I have always felt drawn to this state and recently visited and truly felt as if I had discovered my home. I was offered many "under the table" positions while visiting but wish to work legally in the United States. I was wondering if you could tell me what my options may be? Other than a student visa or marriage is there any way that I could legally live and work in the U.S? Also other than nurses and doctors what professions are really in demand in Los Angeles?
Thank you SO very much for all of your assistance!!!!

No degree? You have a lot of competition for low paying jobs.
What specific skills do you have?
What reason are you drawn to California? Specifically.

The Lakers could use a point guard.

Haha...well, my skills on the basketball court are a tad rusty, but I could always begin training again Actually, I currently manage a photography/film studio in Toronto and am also a Producer, Administrative Assistant and Office Manager (Among other things). My current position demands that I wear many diverse hats and assume many different roles at different times. At one time in my life I was interested in pursuing a career in film or broadcasting so California seemed like the one of the obvious places to be. I will confess however, that I have always dreamt of living close to the ocean and the mountains, yet still be close to urban areas so that I am able to work. I quickly fell in love with the atmosphere and the people that I met when I visited. I have done some fashion styling in Toronto and am also currently getting my Canadian Personal Training certification. In addition to my experience in photography, studio management and administration I am also very interested in the areas of mental and physical health and wellness. I have attended the University of Toronto (however have not finished my degree yet) and have also taken some college art courses. Haha..I was even an actress at one point. So, as you can see I have been dabbling in many areas and have not quite found my niche just yet. I am not sure exactly WHAT I want to do, but do know WHERE I would like to do it....California. I have been told that I have an overwhelmingly warm, welcoming and charming personality. I love working with people and helping others to the utmost of my ability. I am incredibly hard-working, passionate and determined, so I tend to be quite successful in whichever arena that I choose to commit myself to. Which is part of the problem. Anyway, I have decided to try to figure what professions are being sought after most in California right now (as well as the forecasts for the future) and pursue one of those. I will also need to choose something that will help me attain a visa. Ideally, I would like to move in the next year however, so I am sort of wondering if there were a way to work without a degree. If it were affordable I would LOVE to attend school there. As I mentioned before, I received job offers while visiting so a part of me wonders if I should try to save enough money and just go out there and see what happens....might be kind of crazy to up and do that though!!! Anyway, sorry for the long post...Thank you for your response Charles. I really appreciate the interest and assistance.
Sincerest gratitude
